Mustang Heart

Mustang heart,
Born bold and beautiful,
Destined to be wild and free,
You run the range on the prairie.
Some have tried to saddle your back,
But your spirit wonít be broken,
And, as they fall, you just laugh.
Before they get up, youíre gone
Exploring trails in another valley.
I was left behind, coughing in your dust.
The strongest sandstorm could
Never strip away my memories of you.

The Ballad of Joe McKensey

ďBad news rides a fast horse,Ē the
sheriff sighed on his way out of town.
The McKensey brothers were coming,
And he really didnít want to be around.

It appeared Joe McKensey was on the
Wrong end of a gun last Saturday night
After he drank too much whiskey, said
The wrong thing and started a fight.

His uncle, James, his cousins and other
Kin were on their way to Glory Hill
And this worried the owner of the gun
Who shot Joe, Mr. Augustus Seville.

Augustus Seville, respected in these parts,
Owned a house where only women lived.
Depending on how much they were paid
Depended on how much they would give.

Now, old Joe McKensey was a strong man,
And he was proud of what he had done,
Including beating and bruising one of Sevilleís
Women, for what he thought was fun.

His words spread like fire to Augustus,
Who didnít think the attack was right.
While McKensey fumbled for his six gun,
Mr. Augustus Seville shot him on sight.

The day came to Glory Hill when James
McKensey and kin rode down the street.
Augustus was ready for a battle at the house,
With guns, rifles and ammo at his feet.

The McKenseyís were confident in victory,
For they outnumbered Seville, six to one.
They didnít know how mean Seville could
Get until once the shooting had begun.

Bullets were flying everywhere around
The house near the new railroad tracks.
Two of the McKenseyís were struck dead
As they tried to enter a window in the back.

A bullet hit Augustus in the shoulder, and
It hurt, and worse, it made him mad as hell.
He put the Winchester rifle through the pane,
And shot a big, tall man by the well.

Suddenly, there was the sound of silence,
And, for the moment, no one knew who won.
Bleeding in several places, Augustus walked
Out onto the porch, and smiled to everyone.
All of the other men laid on the ground, and
Mr. Augustus Seville thought they were dead.
With one last breath left, the man by the well,
James McKensey, shot Seville in the head.

Not too many remember this gun important fight,
Because not that many remember Glory Hill, but
Thousands of people drive over the property where
The fight took place in the town renamed Seville.

I Want to Be a Cowboy

I want to be a cowboy.
I want to be an American hero.
I want to be part of the Wild West,
When the country was at itís best.
When freedom was a saddle and a horse,
And you could travel your own course.
Most of the times were tough and rough,
But you could succeed if you had enough
Of what it took to be a cowboy.

I want to be a cowboy.
I want to be an American hero.
I want to be part of the Wild West,
When the country was at itís best.
When I could ride my horse all day long,
And sing those lonesome cowboy songs.
The law was code of justice by the gun,
And the hero rode into the setting sun,
But it wasnít the end of the cowboy.

I want to be a cowboy.
I want to be an American hero.
